Welcome to Maceage's blog!

Welcome to my blog!

Welcome! This is probably the second or third time that I’ve tried to create a blog over the years.

Previous attempts have involved creating a wiki or thinking about using WordPress with a backend database such as MySQL.

While Medium and Blogger are popular blogging platforms, they often require a subscription, and I feel that you’re not really in control of your own content.

Therefore, I wanted something that was simple, portable, version-controlled, easy to maintain and secure. I also didn’t want particularly want to run a Virtual Private Server (VPS) as that seemed overkill.

With the advent of Markdown, GoLang, the awesome Hugo and Amazon Web Services, I decided to create this blog using a static site generator.

While I could have opted for Jekyll or Gatsby, after some research and comparisons I settled on Hugo.

I also wanted a clean, responsive design, and so I’m using the primer-blog theme by Atsushi Nagase that uses GitHub’s Primer CSS design system.

The intention of this blog is to document learnings, experiences and share knowledge.

Here’s hoping you find this useful as much as I enjoy publishing to it!
